It is Ethan's first birthday party - no, not his birthday, of course. Someone's celebrating his third birthday, and being a regular of the playgroup, Ethan was invited (parents included). So we went. And it was nice. It's just like another day of the playgroup, but getting the balloons up and the foods out were enough to keep the parents and the helpers of the birthday boy busy. Ethan must have eaten nine or so pieces of biscuits, rolls and pies. Without guessing, it must have been a happy day for him. What I am worried about now is the next time we go to the playgroup, how I am going to explain why there isn't so much food any more.

I went to the kitchen to prepare dinner. Surprisingly, Ethan was not following me like usual. Maybe because Jianming was nearby typing away. Or maybe because he's had enough sleep in the afternoon and was not so grouchy, and he also had some fantastic food earlier (at the birthday party) and the memory (and taste) lingered. When I came back to the room, I saw a train track (of some sort) and him playing with it. Not a train track for this world, but might work for some other worlds perhaps. Still, something to be commended.

Jianming was working on his paper, Ethan just insisted on doing the same.

Father and son were playing Mega® Bloks. Ethan actually pointed to a contraption he made and told us that's a camel. Wow. He even pointed to the head. Then he put another on and started to sing 'We three kings of Orient are, Bearing gifts we traverse afar, Fields and fountain, moor and mountain, Following yonder star. Oh, star of wonder, star of night, Star with royal beauty bright, Westward leading, still proceeding, Guide us to thy perfect light.' Of course, he did not pronounce every word, nor all perfectly. Jianming said the additional piece was the wise man, oh well, he said it, of course it must be.

Ethan's Dictionary

Huggle
A cross between 'hug' and 'snuggle', invented probably out of the difficulty of pronouncing the 's' in 'snuggle'.
E.g. 1. 'Mama, huggle, huggle.' 2. 'Huggle Do--y, Huggle Do--y...' (Used as in a chant for sound effect.)

I do like snow, the only bright spot of a dreary, almost sun-less winter. The snow that fell on 3 Jan did manage to cover the city in white, draping the trees with fluffy cottons. However, by the next day, it had all but melted away, leaving dirty slushes, muddy paths and hopes for a longer lasting snowfall.

We almost carried Ethan all the way to the fire procession on 29 Dec 07. There were some bagpipes playing, and when the procession started, we followed the torchlight carriers all the way to the crossroads of Princes' Street and North Bridge road. We did not go further up to Carlton Hill, where they would burn the ship, and put up fireworks. However, we caught a glimpse of the fireworks when they burst into a myriad of colours from our kitchen.

Bedtime Stories.

Mega® Bloks)
I no Santa Claus. I no beard. I no Santa Claus. I too heavy.”

The one without Ethan

Rainbow taken from the kitchen window:

"The mouse ran up the clock,
The clock struck one,
The mouse did not want to run down..."

"The animals went in two by two..."
