We went to Portobello Beach on 24 Aug. Being a sort of tourist attraction, it was easy to find with signposts everywhere. Ethan had a good time 'digging for treasure' there, though he refused to take off his shoes and tread water.

We went to the Pentlands on 23 August. I think we broke our record on the longest walk with Ethan on that day. From the bus stop to the start of the nature trails, it took us about 1 hour - the distance was probably about 2 km. Then, despite choosing the shortest nature path, that was still another 2 miles. After that, we still had to walk about the same distance back to the bus stop. Really exhausted by the time we reached the bus stop. I think it was already 5 pm (we started the day at about 11 am). And being the shortest nature route, we did not get anywhere near the hills at all. The circuit was around a reservoir, and we veered off at some point to pass by another reservoir so that the journey back to the bus stop would be shorter.

'Yes'

Over dinner after the visit to Deep Sea World:
Me: Did you get to touch starfish today?
Ethan: Yes.
(Great, you still remembered!)

After a pause.
Me: Did you touch the shark?
Ethan: Yes.
(...)

Try again.
Me: Did you touch the stingray?
Ethan: Yes.
Sigh, should I be glad that at least he's saying 'yes' instead of 'no', anyhow?

A Walk and A Climb

Princes Street Gardens:

Arthur's Seat:

Friends came to visit Edinburgh on 13 and 14 August, on a rare sunny respite. I did not get much chance to entertain them, because I couldn't possibly bring Ethan out for the whole day - it's quite tiring for both of us. So, we took them to the Princes Street Gardens on Wednesday afternoon and Holyrood Park, with a climb up Arthur's Seat, on Thursday morning. Ethan enjoyed the climb up the hill, getting so enthusiastic (following a girl older than him) that he went beyond expectation and climbed to the summit of the summit. And he seemed more ready to put on funny faces for the camera, so we have some rather good photos of him there.
