We really made full use of the final bursts of continuous sunshine last week. On Thursday, besides going to the usual parent and toddler group (photos with the animal hat were taken there), Ethan and I went for a rather long walk around the meadows, and actually found another playground. There he had an enjoyable time walking on the ropes and climbing through the tunnel and refused to go home till I resorted to threats.

On Friday, despite the cloudy weather, I met two friends at Fort Kinnaird Shopping Centre. They also brought their children (of Ethan's age). The Early Learning Centre has a bigger toyshop there and the kids had a great time playing with the toys there. It is some distance away so I got a day ticket. With this day ticket, of course I had to use it as much as possible as well, so it was a day of going out again. Ethan had slept on the bus on the way home, so I took the journey further in order to let him sleep a little more, knowing that he would wake up the minute we got off the bus. So a 30-mins bus ride brought me to somewhere near the city centre of Edinburgh, where I bought tickets for a play targeted at audience from age two upwards. Reaching home, getting rid of some of the burdens, and preparing bits of the dinner, we were off again. This time to Duddingston Village, a World Heritage site. Without maps and only a vague memory of what Jianming told me about the village, we walked in the wrong direction right away, and were pointed to the opposite direction by a kind lady, who even offered to give us a ride. I didn't accept her generous offer, so afterwards, had to ask for directions again when all seemed lost. Finally, we found the church and the lake. We did not have time to go into the village, which Jianming said was very nice. Still, Ethan had a wild time chasing the geese and ducklings that were unlucky enough to fall within his reach. So we had a good time and good adrenaline rush (for me at least) as we hurried to catch the 1832 bus (which was late) back home. Might go back again at a more leisurely pace next time.

Since then, weather has gone cloudier, mistier, and moodier and we are confined to our flat most of the time. It was dreary and hard to bear, after the excitement of the week before.
